REQUIREMENTS FOR SHORT STAY SCHENGEN VISA

General requirements for Schengen Visa

  • Applicant should call over in person. Travel agents or other individuals are not allowed to represent the applicant.
  • One application form PER APPLICANT should be perfected with full names & two recent passport size coloured photographs (full face, white background). Initials are not acceptable. NOTE: children on parent's passport must fill out separate application form.
  • Valid passport (and previous passports, if any). Current passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay. A copy of the bio page and amendment page should be annexed to the application form.
  • Applicant should be in possession of confirmed travel itinerary from an approved travel agent and a travel insurance valid for the length of stay and for all Schengen states covering medical repatriation, emergency medical and hospital care. A minimum cover of 30.000 EUROS is mandatory.
  • Letter from school confirming permitted leave of children should be provided.
  • Children below 18 years travelling alone or with guardian should have a letter giving consent to travel from the parents or appointment of guardianship certified by District Court, with copy of parent's ID and birth certificate of the child with English translation.
  • Parents visiting children should have a copy of the sponsoring child's birth certificate.

Applicant should fill out the application and provide all documents required as mentioned hereunder, according to the type of visa. Copies of original documents should be provided by the applicants.

Extra requirements for Business Visa

  • Proof of business contact/seminar/workshop (invitation letter) in Schengen State indicating purpose and duration of visit.
  • An original letter with a "guarantee for visit", if principals/company in Schengen is covering travel expenses and/or accommodation
  • Proof of business registration and form 48 (companies Act No. 17 of 1982) both with English translation (original + copy)
  • Letter from employer indicating date of appointment, profession, salary particulars, contract of employment and payslips for the last 3 months as well as documentary proof of your EPF contribution
  • Letter from company/employer in Sri-Lanka indicating purpose and duration of visit. Company's bank statements for last three months (original + copies)
  • For a visit to a trade fair without having a sponsoring party in the country of main destination a hotel reservation. If the visa is approved, you might be asked to submit a hotel voucher.
  • If inviting party is not financing your stay in Schengen/Sweden, bank statement for last three months (original+copies) with proof of sufficient funds to finance your stay in Schengen, the requirement by the Swedish authorities is 370 SEK (Swedish crowns) per person, per day, for your upkeep, for the length of stay in Sweden.

Extra requirements for Tourist Visa

  • If inviting party is financing your stay in Schengen: copy of sponsor's passport/ID card & residence permit (if applicable), proof of employment with salary slips for the last three (03) months.
  • If no inviting party: hotel reservation if (if the visa is approved, you might be asked to submit a hotel voucher)
  • Letter from employer stating date of commencement of employment and confirming period of approved paid/unpaid leave.
  • Salary slips for the last 3 months
  • Documentary proof of EPF contribution
  • For students: letter from school/university confirming permitted leave
  • If inviting party is not financing your stay or when staying in a hotel letter of invitation and proof of sufficient funds (bank statement for the last three months (original + copies) to finance your stay in Schengen, the requirement by the Swedish authorities is 370 SEK (Swedish crowns) per person, per day, for your upkeep, for the length of stay in Sweden. This amount might be slightly lower for your children.
  • Copy of property deeds (if applicable: with translation into English)
  • Invitation letter, Appendix E and extract of the Swedish population register (Personbevis) should be sent from sponsor.
  • For applicants going to Finland, invitation letter, Appendix E and extract of the Finnish population register should be sent by sponsor.
  • Birth certificate and Marriage certificate (if applicable), with translations into English (original and copy).
  • Appendix D.
  • Parents visiting children must produce copy of birth certificate (original and translation in English) of sponsoring child in Sweden.
  • Sibling visiting sibling must produce copy of birth certificate (original and translation in English) of sponsoring sibling in Sweden
  • Equivalent of SEK 370 per day for upkeep to be shown for those not staying with a sponsor, but in a hotel.

Extra requirements for Airport Transit Visa

  • The applicant should be in possession of the required visa for the final destination
  • Confirmed airline ticket
  • Documents (by fax or mail) should be sent to the applicant directly and not to the Embassy where you are to apply for your visa.
  • E-Mail transmissions are not acceptable as supporting documents
  • Documents in Sinhalese or Tamil must be presented with an official English translation
  • The visa fee charged at the time of submitting your visa application will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  • Applicant should tender correct amount.

Each applicant should provide a complete file IN CERTAIN CASES, ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS OR OTHER PROOF MAY BE REQUIRED

SHORT-STAY (TOURIST OR BUSINESS) VISA FOR SCHENGEN TERRITORY

A Schengen visa enables a foreigner to travel to the Schengen area. The following countries form part of the Schengen area: France, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Denmark, Iceland Sweden and Finland. With a Schengen visa you can travel freely between these countries as long as the Schengen visa is valid.

  • You have to apply for your Schengenvisa at the Embassy of your MAIN destination. If the main destination cannot be determined, responsibility for issuance of the visa lies with the Schengen state of first entry.
  • A visa gives the opportunity to enter the Schengen area and not a legal right.
  • The purpose of a proposed visit cannot be altered once the visa has been issued.
  • It is recommended you apply in the period that lies between three (03) weeks and three (03) months prior to entry to the Schengen area.
  • In Sri Lanka, applicants may obtain a uniform visa at the following foreign missions :
